Community Workshop: Write Your Life Story!
Thursday, November 6th, 2008Have you ever wanted to write your life story? Do you have a friend or family member whose story you would like to record?
Join us for a new series of writing workshops in which we will learn, write and share our stories. This season, we offer two workshops:
1. Write Your Life Story
Each one hour class will feature instruction on an aspect of writing technique as well as writing prompts, in-class writing exercises and time to share and comment on each other’s stories. We’ll focus on identifying the stories in our own lives and capturing them in personal essays and memoirs. (Sundays, 5-6 pm, beginning Nov. 16. Ten sessions. Cost: $200.)
2. You’re The Biographer
In this new workshop, we will explore the writing, research and interviewing skills needed to capture the life story of another individual. Each one-hour class will feature instruction and discussion of research and interviewing techniques. How do you draw out another person’s story? How do you organize the material and write it as a narrative? How can research help fill in the blanks? (Mondays, 7-8 pm, beginning Nov. 17. Ten sessions. Cost: $200.)
Who: Ellen Neuborne, Community Synagogue member and published author and essayist, will lead both workshops.
When: Classes begin the week of Nov. 16 and run ten weeks.
Where: All classes meet at Community Synagogue, 325 E. Sixth Street (between 1st Ave. and 2nd Ave.)
Class size is limited. Please call or email to pre-register.
Join Rabbi Charlie Buckholtz every Monday evening at 7:30 p.m. for a class that looks at some of the fascinating and important issues of the weekly parsha. Learn what the Torah has to say about family, relationships, business, ethics and God. The class is free and open to the public. Call 212-473-3665 for more information or email
